This article we had to read talked about the ability to use cooperation in order to achieve your final goal. Working together is the main reason why humans are where we’re at today. Working together we have achieved miracles in technology, architecture, medicine, and the list goes on. The article uses the American government as an example stating that in the beginning the government was filled with self-interested politicians who would corrupt to get the way they wanted. However upon joining together and creating a document to live by order was placed upon the new-found US.
The article used an example called the Prisoner Dilemma. In this the players are given the chance to choose to cooperate or to defect. Depending on their answers the players are awarded points. In the end the person with the most points, or whoever was most cooperative, wins the game. This game looks into situation in which people would normally defect however based on certain twists cooperating would lead them to victory. Based on a system of pay-offs players take dives and take treasures depending on the question. In the end points are compared and from that alone you can conceive the notion that most of the time cooperating is the best thing you can do.
In art working together is the best thing a person could do. This point of a critique is not to bash on another person’s work thinking it’s insignificant. During a critique you work together to bounce ideas off each other to improve your artwork as well as the other persons. The final product is the most important aspect of art and sometimes the only way to reach that is to ask opinions and ask for help with certain things. Many artists throughout time have worked together either coming up with the idea or the actual application of the idea.
This is also seen in the music business. One example in which teamwork was utilized perfectly was from Pink Floyd’s album “Wish You Were Here”. On the track, Have a Cigar, both Roger Waters and David Gilmour felt their voices didn’t fit the song. To fix this they both decided to bring in another person to lay down the track with a more suiting voice. In this case both backed out of the argument and let someone else they thought would be better sing the song. Unfortunately for this band both lead men got into an argument in which one thought the other was stealing ideas and taking credit. In light of this the band broke up and one of the greatest most unique bands ever retired to the story-books.
In the world cooperation is crucial as well. In order for any business or organization to be successful there must be cooperation. This is unfortunately incredibly apparent in our government. The government funds the tobacco companies with their addictive cigarettes to squeeze money out of the public’s pockets. Our government itself has so many little schemes such as that one operating to suck money out of it’s people. Even though this only benefits a select few and kills of millions, it’s still allowed to exist and wreak the benefits.
Cooperation in any form is usually the most beneficial way to accomplish anything. Whether your trying to make an incredible song or trick the people you represent into spending billions of dollars, cooperation is the way to go. Maybe the people should get together and cooperate against the government, sounds like a plan.
